About the KEEN Brand
Born in the Heart of Nature
KEEN was founded in 2003 by Martin Keen and Rory Fuerst, and is headquartered in Portland, Oregon—an area surrounded by nature and known for outdoor activity, fitting the brand’s image perfectly.
Blending Protection with Style
The brand’s defining moment came with the question: “Can a sandal protect your toes?” Most sandals at the time left toes exposed, risking injury in outdoor settings. KEEN solved this by creating the now-iconic Toe Protection feature—safeguarding your toes from rocks and roots while offering breathability and amphibious usability. This innovation won over outdoor enthusiasts and fashion lovers alike.
KEEN Effect: Environmental & Social Impact
KEEN has been actively involved in environmental protection and community outreach since its founding. The KEEN Effect encompasses donations, disaster relief, conservation partnerships, and volunteer initiatives—reinforcing the brand’s global appeal.
The Appeal of KEEN UNEEK: Fit and Breathability Through Braided Construction
An Innovative Braided Sandal
The UNEEK was born from the radical idea of making a sandal from “just two cords and a sole.” Living up to its name, this truly unique design debuted around 2014 and quickly became one of KEEN’s signature models.
Upper Made from Two Braided Cords
Its standout feature is the upper constructed from two polyester cords. Unlike typical stitched parts, the braided design adjusts dynamically to the shape of your foot, delivering airflow and a flexible fit. The gaps between cords allow wind and water to pass through—perfect for rivers, beaches, and other water activities. Plus, its customizable colors and bold aesthetics make it a fun style statement.
Stability and Cushioning in the Sole
Built with outdoor performance in mind, UNEEK features an EVA midsole for cushioning and a grippy outsole tread for traction on trails or wet ground. A heel support system stabilizes the ankle, minimizing that typical sandal looseness. It’s built for movement, not just lounging.
Not Just Comfort and Function—It’s Fashion-Forward
A Striking Design Loved in Fashion Circles
The braided upper grabs attention instantly—blending innovation and fashion. Not only embraced by outdoor lovers, KEEN UNEEK is now a favorite among urban dressers, streetwear fans, and even those into modern, minimalist style. Neither quite a sneaker nor a sandal, it stands out uniquely—especially in warm weather when individuality in footwear counts.
Great Fit and Long-Lasting Durability
The braided cords adapt to foot movement, offering secure yet gentle support. The polyester cords are tough against tension and friction, and the outsole rubber meets outdoor durability standards—so you can enjoy your favorite pair for longer.

Staff Wearing Review
- Wearing my usual size of 26cm felt tight in width. While the instep height and length were fine, the overall fit felt slightly small.
- At 26.5cm, there was a bit of room in the instep and toe area, and the width felt just right.
- The 23cm was extremely tight, and at 23.5cm, the toe area felt cramped, making the sole’s contours misalign with my foot and causing discomfort.
- Size 24cm provided the best fit and balance, while 24.5cm felt slightly roomy in the toe area.
