This bag is created based on the concept of “uneven continuity.”
The inspiration comes from the trekking route “GR21” in Normandy, France.
A course that runs along coal-rock cliffs, connecting towns from ?tretat to F?camp.
The wavering sea seen from there is not perfectly regular, and the cliff faces reveal layered yet uneven expressions.
Feeling that this “beauty of not being too perfectly aligned” overlapped with the traces born from working by hand, the design was developed by translating this image into the form of a bag.
Gathering is applied across the entire body, giving a three-dimensional expression to continuous waves and the undulations of the cliffs.
The gathers are connected through stitching in multiple areas, and by varying the width taken at the center and the sides, it creates a sense of “continuity” where the same rhythm continues but never becomes identical, resulting in a structure that reveals the handcrafted character and the organic atmosphere of the material, which is difficult to achieve through uniform machine processing alone.
Because the main body is built up with gathers, the gusset is finished in a single piece of leather, giving a clean and refined impression.
In addition, a vertical zipper pocket is hidden within the front gathers, enhancing practicality without disrupting the overall appearance.
Since the front pocket can be opened and closed even while the bag is worn on the shoulder, it is designed with convenience in mind for accessing items while on the move.
The material used is tea husk leather, which has been adopted since last year.
By adding a few percent of tannins extracted from Ito En’s used tea leaves to the mimosa-derived tannins used in the tanning process, it creates a soft look with reduced excessive gloss.
At the same time, it also incorporates efforts to reduce environmental impact from the perspective of material utilization.
Designed to comfortably accommodate even those who carry a lot of belongings for work or daily use, it is finished as a tote bag with simple and easy-to-handle inner pockets.
