Crafted using the Norwegian welt construction, these short-length back-zip boots are a slightly more compact version of the brand’s iconic and consistently popular model “788.”
The sole features a thick Vibram tank sole, and among the back-zip series, this pair is designed with the shortest ankle height.
The Norwegian welt method―developed in Italy―is commonly used in dress shoes and is characterized by its durability and distinctive double-stitch decoration. The process involves stitching the insole and upper together, turning the upper outward and stitching it to the midsole, then applying an additional stitch that joins the midsole and outsole.
The material used is the reverse side of full-grain leather. Because the grain surface has not been shaved away, the leather retains its original thickness and fiber density, giving it exceptional strength. Although it has the appearance of a suede-like nap, its durability equals or even surpasses that of regular grain-side leather boots.
With wear, the nap gradually compresses from friction and pressure, allowing internal oils to migrate to the surface. Over time, the initially matte finish begins to develop a deep, black sheen, eventually aging into a subdued gloss reminiscent of smooth leather.
