Thank you for always visiting our blog.
Today, we would like to introduce three shirt models from the ZIGGY CHEN 26SS collection, which luxuriously utilize the highest quality Chinese silk and feature the digital prints that symbolize this season.
The unique drape of silk felt the moment you slip your arms through, and the pattern work perfectly calculated for body movement.
Furthermore, the pride of an artisan brand is packed into every step, from fabric selection to the final washing process. Please enjoy reading to the end.
The Visual Identity of Digital Prints Reminiscent of Ink-Wash Paintings and Murals
First and foremost, what catches everyone's eye is the overwhelming graphic applied to the entire shirt.
The theme for this 26SS collection is "PRITRIKE". This is a unique coined word by ZIGGY CHEN, combining Primal (origin, return to roots) and Strike (impact, departure, resolution).
Traditional expression techniques such as the "shading of ink," "bleeding," and "fading" found in ink-wash paintings established in Tang Dynasty China, as well as the texture of murals weathered over many years, are meticulously depicted on silk fabric using modern digital printing technology.
Unique earth colors like gray, charcoal, and a slightly earthy khaki combine with the texture of the fabric to exude a one-of-a-kind atmosphere.
The Embodiment of the Powerful Energy of Summer Rain in the Jiangnan Region
Behind this graphic lies the scenery of the traditional "Jiangnan" region, which the designer himself considers a source of inspiration.
In particular, the powerful energy of the "light yet persistent summer rain" unique to the Jiangnan region—an energy that is quiet yet nurtures all creation while simultaneously weathering material surfaces—forms the mood of this print.
The fact that even easily overlooked everyday memories—such as the scene of a rain-soaked concrete wall looking like an ink-bled painting, or the afterimages of people coming and going on the street corners of 1990s Shanghai—are incorporated into the expression of the clothing creates an immeasurable depth in ZIGGY CHEN's creations.
The Physical Benefits of 100% Premium Chinese Silk with a History Dating Back to BC
Chosen as the canvas for this profound print is 100% premium Chinese silk material, which boasts an extremely soft and smooth touch.
Silk is a natural "continuous filament" whose manufacturing technology originated in China around 3000 BC.
This ultra-fine thread has a cross-section close to a triangle, which reflects light like a prism to create its distinctive deep luster.
Furthermore, silk possesses the physical characteristic of an extremely high dye fixation rate (dyeability).
The designer views silk as an important medium for realizing the brand's core concept of "reproducing old memories," and by utilizing this high dyeability, he has succeeded in clearly fixing prints with the aforementioned "complex tones that look as if decades have passed."
The Matte Texture Brought by a 3-Step Washing Process and Functionality for Comfort Even in Midsummer
However, ZIGGY CHEN's silk is not merely beautiful and lustrous.
In their in-house atelier, despite using the highest grade silk, they incorporate an extremely strict process management spanning a total of three washes: at the fabric stage, after cutting, and a garment wash after sewing.
Through this relentless washing process, the strong luster characteristic of silk is moderately suppressed, transforming it into a matte, dry texture that blends seamlessly with the skin.
Moreover, the functional benefits for the wearer are immeasurable.
Due to silk's inherent superior moisture absorption and desorption properties, it separates well from the skin even when sweating, suppressing stickiness and maintaining ultimate comfort.
Because it is finished extremely thin and lightweight, it can be worn very coolly as a main top even during the hot summer season exceeding 25°C, let alone as an inner layer in spring and early autumn.
The designer's intention to express a softness and spontaneity that is never forced through clothing is strongly reflected in every single choice of material and processing.
Three Different Pattern Works Designed with Everyday Movements as the Starting Point
This time, we have prepared three models using this common premium silk material.
ZIGGY CHEN's pattern making is constructed through a process where the designer himself wears them daily, repeating millimeter-level micro-adjustments while being conscious of actual "body movements (especially around the shoulders)."
Therefore, it is characterized not only by visual beauty but also by the logical securing of a physical range of motion and wearing comfort.
DIGITAL PRINT SPREAD COLLAR SHIRT (Khaki/02)
First is the long-sleeved spread collar shirt.
It features a spread collar design, and the use of natural buffalo horn for the front buttons shows thorough craftsmanship down to the finest details.
With no tightness around the shoulders and the fabric supplely following along when moving the arms, you can feel its high degree of perfection as artisan wear.
DIGITAL PRINT SHORT SLEEVE POCKET SHIRT (Mix/02)
Next is the short-sleeved open collar shirt.
It adopts a casual and relaxed open collar (spread collar) specification, keeping the chest area clean, highly breathable, and refreshing.
A practical pocket is placed on the left chest, and natural buffalo horn is also used for the front buttons here.
This is a piece where the effortless vibe of the open collar and the smooth drape of the silk are conveyed most directly.
DIGITAL PRINT HIGH-NECK SHORT SLEEVE SHIRT (Green/52)
Lastly is the highly design-oriented high-neck short-sleeved shirt.
A high neck that gives a sophisticated impression is adopted for the neckline, equipped with a drawcord that can be adjusted to your preference.
In addition to the front chest pocket, decorative details with a string hanging from around the left side body emit a one-of-a-kind presence typical of an artisan brand.
This string is removable, allowing you to enjoy changes in nuance according to your style.
Three Styling Proposals to Leverage the Materials and Patterns
From here, we will introduce stylings featuring these silk shirts as the main element.
Styling 1: Layered Style with the Long-Sleeve Spread Collar Shirt
The long-sleeved "DIGITAL PRINT SPREAD COLLAR SHIRT" is designed with a slightly longer length, making it enjoyable to style with vests from the same brand.
Pairing it with voluminous wide pants or baggy pants further enhances an expert aesthetic.
We recommend an outfit that makes this shirt the centerpiece by combining it with items in colors like beige or off-white.
Styling 2: Summer Style with the Short-Sleeve Open Collar Shirt
A style using the short-sleeved "DIGITAL PRINT SHORT SLEEVE POCKET SHIRT."
This also pairs well with voluminous wide pants or baggy pants, and blends beautifully with items of different materials such as 100% wool or 100% linen.
Not only can it be worn on its own, but we also recommend a styling where you throw on a tailored jacket or spring coat over it, slightly revealing the design through layering.
Styling 3: Constructing a Decadent A-line with the High-Neck Short-Sleeve Shirt
A style making the "DIGITAL PRINT HIGH-NECK SHORT SLEEVE SHIRT," characterized by its string details, the main piece.
We recommend pairing it with calm dark-toned items, or contrasting items made of different materials.
The strings and silk fabric sway with every movement, evoking a quiet yet powerful energy akin to the rain in Jiangnan.
Throwing a tailored jacket or vest over it also creates a very good balance.
