The eye-catching design features a square patchwork reminiscent of origami placed on the left chest. Over the patchwork, sashiko―an emblematic technique of the brand―is applied in a grid pattern, expressing FDMTL’s unique craftsmanship. On the left sleeve hem, a subtle accent is added with an embroidered "F," the brand’s initial.
Designer Manabu Tsuyoshi collects vintage sashiko fabrics and noragi (traditional workwear) materials. He meticulously analyzes stitch spacing, thread thickness, and geometric patterns recorded there and reconstructs them into modern wear using special sewing techniques at a factory in Okayama Prefecture. This design integrates Japan’s traditional technique, originally developed to reinforce clothing and improve insulation, as a functional design element in contemporary daily wear.
