Types of leather and basic knowledge
From bags, shoes, wear to belts, GUIDI's leather has always
fascinated people not only for its quality but also for its
diversity.

here are some typical leathers.

GUIDI uses the traditional vegetable tannin tannage
method
handed down in Tuscany, Italy, to produce leather
while slowly nourishing the leather over time.
While ordinary vegetable tannin tannage produces a
high
degree of solidity but with a hard texture,
GGUIDI's leather has a unique atmosphere having
excellent texture and suppleness.
In addition to its fittability, this leather can also
be expected to change over time.
Rare full-grain leather.
We, at GUIDI, use leather called full-grain leather. Full grain is a kind of leather that has only removed the outermost body hair of the leather, and retains its intact nature, without hiding any natural scars that may have occurred during its life. Full-grain leather is a rare leather and the number of products that can be produced is very limited as it is highly dependent on the condition of the raw leather.
Types of Leather Leather Type
Horse leather
Typical leather used in many of the most famous and representative pieces at GUIDI. It has a smooth silver surface with few grains and wrinkles, and its tight expression gives it a neat and powerful look. The solid look and subdued dull sheen give it a luxurious impression.
Cordovan
The main feature of GUIDI's cordovan is its bouncy, taut texture and a very smooth, moist and comfortable feel, as well as its fittability. In addition to its neatness and fineness, its lustrous expression is also dignified and strong. Cordovan is originally a rare commodity, but only GUIDI's high technology with vegetable tannin tanage can achieve such a smooth and supple texture.
Calf Leather
Calf leather can be seen in many pieces of work along with horse leather. GUIDI's calf features a matte look with a modest elasticity and luster, and a grain side engraved with finer grain than hose leather. It has a soft and embracing texture. Compared to hoses leather and cordovan which have rather a strong impression, it has modest and gentle impression. Put on these shoes and you can feel its smooth and supple feelings.
Baby Calf Leather
"Baby calf" can be produced from calves within 3 months of age, which is especially rare among calf leather. It has a finer grain feeling and finer texture than calf leather and is as soft as calf leather, but rare since it is just difficult to produce.
Buffalo leather
Buffalo has the same modest and soft texture as the calf, which belongs to the same family of cattle, but the look and feel is very much different. Buffalo is characterized by its more wild atmosphere than calf, with more pronounced grain and clearer pores than calf. It goes well with military-style lace-up boots because the grain creates a rugged atmosphere.
Bison leather
Bison is one of the few leathers that can give a visual impact to a piece of work with a deep, three-dimensional grained shade. It has larger, thicker grain than buffalo, and features highlighted ruggedness. It has a different nuance of power than hose, and has a distinctive wild look together with buffalo leather.
Kangaroo leather
The greatest feature is its lightness in appearance. In addition to its tangible softness, lightness, and elasticity, it gives a lightness of look and feel as this leather is not very thick. It has a much finer look than a calf or hose, and it has a more three-dimensional grain than a calf though it is more modest.
Donkey leather
Donkey leather is the thickest of the GUIDI's leathers. At first it feels hard, but it is the leather that you can feel the change over time. It has a slightly matte texture compared to hoses, etc., and has a surface with unique grain that has a fine three-dimensional effect similar to that of kangaroos. It is as glossy as a calf, but the atmosphere is the right opposite, rugged and earthy leather
Stag leather
Stag, a type of deerskin, is a leather characterized by its subdued appearance, glossy finish, and embossed tiger stripes or wrinkles. Stag, a type of deerskin, is a leather with a calming look and luster, as well as its characteristic carved grains and wrinkles. It looks similar to calf. Like kangaroo, it has excellent elasticity and is light, but the roughness of the leather's expression gives it a moderate strength.
Goat leather
Goat leather has impressive grains on the surface, which is like a combination of the three-dimensional look of bison and the fineness of donkey. The shade and color unevenness created by these wrinkles depending on the dyeing condition gives a piece of work a flavor. The wrinkles created by the supple and sturdy leather often give a rugged impression, but it is one of the softest among the GUIDI's leather collection. While goat leather is said to be thin but durable, GUIDI gives it a thicker finish that makes it even stronger.
